TARAWA, November 2, 2026 (Tungaru Press) — ANZ Bank Kiribati has opened its new branch and main office in Banraeaba, bringing its retail, commercial and head office operations together in one location.
The opening ceremony was attended by President Taneti Maamau, ANZ Pacific CEO Sarah Stubbings, Cabinet ministers, diplomats, church leaders and other guests.
The bank had been operating from temporary premises in Bairiki for more than three years. ANZ Kiribati CEO Gregory Edwards said the new building reflected the bank’s confidence in Kiribati and its long-term commitment to the country.
The facility includes air-conditioned customer areas, free Wi-Fi and private rooms for confidential banking discussions.
President Maamau said the branch could serve more than twice as many customers as the previous premises and provide better working conditions for staff.
He encouraged ANZ to continue expanding digital banking and access to formal banking services, especially for people living on outer islands. He also highlighted the role of banking in supporting savings, businesses, investment and government payments.
Stubbings described the opening as a significant milestone for ANZ in Kiribati. She reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to providing safe and accessible services and praised staff for maintaining operations during a difficult period.
The ceremony also recognised Edwards, who is due to complete his seven-and-a-half-year contract in December. He thanked the Government, customers, staff and partners for their support.
His successor, Edwin, has more than 20 years of banking experience in Papua New Guinea. President Maamau and Stubbings acknowledged Edwards’ leadership of the building project and his contribution to ANZ’s relationship with the community. Edwards is expected to remain in Kiribati after his contract ends.
